Our 7 Level lesson curriculum

LEVEL 1

Foundations & Safety

Confidence, connection, and basic handling

  • Barn safety & herd behavior
  • Catching, haltering, leading
  • Grooming & hoof care
  • Reading horse body language
  • Mounting basics
  • Walk only, balance exercises

Outcome — Student can safely handle a horse on the ground and walk under supervision.

LEVEL 2

Basic Riding Skills

Control, rhythm, and communication

  • Walk–halt transitions
  • Steering with reins + seat
  • Intro to posting trot
  • Safe arena etiquette
  • Circles and serpentines

Outcome — Student can walk/trot with control and maintain rhythm.

LEVEL 3

Intermediate Horsemanship

Timing, and partnership

  • Full posting trot
  • Sitting trot introduction
  • Yielding hindquarters & forequarters
  • Understanding pressure & release
  • Tack knowledge — saddle fit, bit types

Outcome — Student demonstrates consistent trot work and improved communication.

Advanced Riding Basics

Balance, transitions, and precision

  • Canter introduction
  • Transitions between gaits
  • Pole work
  • Independent seat & hands
  • More advanced patterns

Outcome — Student can walk/trot/canter with control and maintain balance.

Discipline Exploration

Skill refinement and exposure to specialties

  • Trail riding skills
  • Dressage basics
  • Western patterns
  • Jumping poles & crossrails
  • Liberty groundwork
  • Obstacles & confidence building

Advanced Partnership

Leadership, finesse, and horse understanding

  • Lateral work — leg yield, side pass
  • Canter leads & simple changes
  • Lunging and long-lining
  • Reading subtle horse cues
  • Conditioning for horse and rider

Outcome — Student rides independently with advanced control and solves common challenges.

Mentor & Instructor Prep

Teaching, leadership, and horse management

Outcome — Student can mentor beginners and demonstrate program-level mastery.
